Last week we carried out three inspections on properties that are rented out to Kildare County Council, Dublin County Council and Meath County Council. The environmental inspector now demands it.
The inspections on two apartments and one semi-detatched house brought up the same problems in each case roughly. The earthing system was found to be insufficient, but was easily put right for the customer.
If you do not have a good earth on the pipework of your property, you or you tenants risk electric shock.
In one case I found that no earth rod was ever put down even though the property was only about 10 years old. It is my belief that houses built in the last 10 years were often finished off hastily by the various contractors and quite often the electricians took short cuts as outlined above.
